11th Annual Parent and Community Evening for First Nation, Métis, and Inuit Education.
Parents and community members are invited to attend an evening to celebrate Indigenous education. Enjoy a presentation by celebrated icon Jesse Wente for free on May 17, 2018 at the Rene M. Caisse Theatre in Bracebridge.
Jesse is Ojibwe, and his family comes from Chicago and the Serpent River First Nation in Ontario. He is an advocate for Aboriginal Arts, most notably on screen. He draws attention to the imagery used by Hollywood in portrayals of Indigenous peoples and stresses the need for a culture to have an influence on their own depiction. His pieces on The Revenant, Beyoncé, and sports mascots were among the most shared on CBC.ca. In 2017, Jesse was appointed to the Canada Council for the Arts.
This is a free event. Reserve your tickets through the Rene M. Caisse Theatre by calling the box office at 705.645.8400. For more info, visit www.thecaisse.com.
