Finding Short Stories from One’s Past
A Workshop with Best-Selling Author, Donna Morrissey
Everyone has a story to tell. Our challenge is to bring that story to the page with words that live. On Wednesday, November 14, Muskoka Authors Association brings you best-selling author, Donna Morrissey, as she teaches you how to tap into poignant moments and events from your past. You will learn to identify the emotions connected to that moment and combine truth and fiction to create short stories. In this workshop, you will also learn a non-fail model to shape your short story. You will discover how to build plot into your story, recognize where a story begins and ends, how to find the heart of your story and bring it to life with tension.
Donna Morrissey publishes through Penguin Canada and has written six nationally best-selling novels. She has received awards in Canada, the U.S. and England and her novel, Sylvanus Now was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Prize.
Morrissey’s fiction has been translated into several different languages. She was nominated for a Gemini for her script, The Clothesline Patch (which won a Gemini for best production). And her latest novel, The Fortunate Brother, spent six weeks on the best seller list, and won the Arthur Ellis Award for best crime novel of 2017.
Aside from mentoring with Humber College, Donna teaches sporadically at Dalhousie University, and is eagerly at work on her seventh novel.
