Do you have questions about writing in the Fantasy Genre, about writing practices or publishing in general? On Wednesday, October 14, Muskoka Authors Association welcomes you to join in a conversation with Canadian Fantasy Author, Richard H. Stephens, is a master creator of fantastical stories, designed to take you, the reader, on a remarkable adventure. His brilliant vision and vivid imagination bring you compelling characters, major drama, incredible fantasy elements and strong, motivating messages.
Born in Simcoe, Ontario, in 1965, Richard Stephens began writing circa 1974, a bored child looking for something to while away the long, summertime days. His penchant for reading The Hardy Boys led to an inspiration one sweltering summer afternoon when he and his best friend realized, "Hey, we could write one of those." And so, Richard did.
As his reading horizons broadened, so did his writing. Star Wars inspired Richard to write a 600-page novel about outer space that caught the attention of a special teacher, Mr. Woodley, who saw his talent and encouraged him to keep writing.
At age 16, a trip to a local bookstore saw the proprietor introduce Richard to Stephen R. Donaldson and Terry Brooks. From that moment, his writing life was forever changed.
Richard worked in a warehouse for 22 years, supporting his family, before returning to school to complete his education. Graduating with honours, he then joined his local Police Service.
Determined to turn his career to writing, Richard resigned from the Police Service in 2017. With the support of his family, Richard has finally realized his boyhood dream. In early 2017, with the support of his wife Caroline, Richard resigned from the Police Service to pursue his love of writing full-time and now, with so much gratitude to his artistic team, has realized his boyhood dream. With numerous novels already in print, Richard’s boundless imagination reels with more tales to be told.
Richard lives in Cambridge, Ontario with his wife and two cats. Together they have five grown children.
